Overview

Kuumba publishes poetry and drawings dedicated to the celebration of the lives, culture, and experiences of black people in the life. Named for one of the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles) of Kwanzaa, Kuumba means "creativity" and is intended to encourage new and experienced writers and artists to develop their craft.

We seek submissions on all subjects reflecting the experiences of men who love men and women who love women within the African diaspora. Areas of interest include involvement with family, interactions with surrounding communities, substance abuse, the arts, political activism, coming out or staying on the down low, oral history, AIDS, women’s health and intimate relationships. These are just examples. Be guided by your heart and mind.
